BELLEVUE, Wash., Oct 30, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Dogpile.com, the search engine that combines the top results from the leading search engines, ranked highest in customer satisfaction among search engines for the second consecutive year, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Residential Online Service Customer Satisfaction Study. Among the top three engines, Dogpile also recorded the biggest gain over its 2006 score, improving more than 14 points and further extending its lead over the next closest competitor, Google.
In its second appearance in the annual J.D. Power and Associates study, Dogpile.com scored top ratings from Internet service subscribers in all three factors that determine overall satisfaction within the segment: ease of use, functionality and results. Since last year's study, Dogpile has made several improvements to its site based on feedback from its users including improvements in the layout and readability of the results page, making Advanced Search easier to use directly from the results page, and improving discoverability of popular home page features such as Favorite Fetches.
"With the vast amounts of information available on the Web today, it's not surprising that different search engines return different results. We're delighted that users recognize and appreciate Dogpile's ability to search several engines at once and provide the best of the best results," said Jim Voelker, CEO for InfoSpace. "This top ranking is a validation of the benefits of metasearch, and shows that one search engine is not necessarily enough."
Further illustrating the value of metasearch, in May of this year Dogpile.com revealed results from a study that found a major disparity between the results returned by the top search engines. The study, titled, Different Engines, Different Results, was conducted by researchers from The Pennsylvania State University and Queensland University of Technology in April 2007 and found that first page results on Google, Yahoo!, Windows Live (formerly MSN Search) and Ask (formerly Ask Jeeves) overlap less than one percent. With search engines producing such differing results, the study reinforced the value of Dogpile.com, which returns the top results from each of these leading search engines to provide users with the most relevant and useful information.
